South Dakota Spring Snows

Whether you are a veteran waterfowl hunter or new to wing shooting, spring snow goose season is very unique to it’s own.  Get everything you know about hunting Canada geese out of your head.  This is an entirely different bird with their own unique habits and characteristics and the hunting can be feast or famine.  The springtime migration is as unique as the birds we pursue and is extremely weather and solunar dependent.

Here are some things to keep in mind while you are packing for your hunt

Depending on the weather we usually hunt from daylight to 11 am and take a mid day break where you can get lunch and grab a nap before the evening hunt around 3 – 5 pm until dark.

Layout blinds have some storage space behind the back rest for a small bag/coat etc.  Layouts provide some protection from the elements but they are by no means “weatherproof.”  Spring season brings all sorts of elements from mud and sheet water to ice and snow.
